HOW TO POINT YOUR NEW DOMAIN TO YOUR NEW SITE
***Note: If you have a GoDaddy domain and want to take care of this by yourself, CLICK HERE for instructions for pointing***
If you already have your own domain name, or have recently purchased one, you can easily direct it to your new site with us. This means if someone types in your domain name, they will be directed to your new site with us—and not your old site. Here are a few important aspects to remember:
• You are pointing, not transferring, your domain name to your new site. Thus, use the exact language we give you below to have your registrar POINT your domain to Weebly.
• The language matters. Use the word POINT.
To make the process of POINTING your domain name to your new site, we recommend that you contact your domain registrar to do it for you. Your domain registrar is the company that you purchased you domain from when you bought it (ie. GoDaddy, Google Domains, etc.) If you used our storefront to purchase your domain, GoDaddy is your registrar and their support number is (480) 624-2500.
- The first step is to contact your domain registrar and let them know you would like to POINT your domain towards Weebly. Most companies have an easy standard way of doing this; because Weebly is one of the most widely used and respected platforms to date.
- Let your domain registrar know you would like to POINT your "A Records" to the IP address 199.34.228.77
- If they ask for a "Host Name" tell them: "*" and "www"
- Also let them know you want the "Time To Live" (TTL) as short as possible.
- When they switch, you will see a gray 404 page — this is a good sign that the process is going well.
- Finally, and importantly, once you have done this let us know, as we have to do a couple of things on our end as well! If you do not complete this step, your site will remain on a 404 page!
***Please make sure to let us know - see step 6***
